Working For Yourself is The Best Job You Will Ever Have

Updated: Nov 13, 2024

Lifestyle Podcast

Working for myself was the best decision I have ever made. I left a career that I loved as as a TV journalist to become an independent journalist and the freedom to work from anywhere and be here when my kids need me is a gift I gave myself and I don't know why i waited to long to do it.

Today's workforce has changed from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday, that way of working would be seen as robotic and monotonous, job security used to mean working your way up the ladder at one company. But like me, so many people have decided to work for themselves after seeing the benefits of working at home during the pandemic. . In 2020, half of the workforce was freelancers, contractors, or temps focused on entrepreneurship. After being my own boss for the last 9 months I can honestly say, working for yourself is the best job you will ever have!

Working for yourself still does come with some risks. First, you need to have a plan and verify your ideas. A business plan is essential to ensure that anyone who funds or works with your business knows the aims and objectives and what you hope to achieve. You also need to make sure there is a market for what you want to do.

But don't let that put you off! Working for yourself provides more job security than working as an employee in someone else's business because there is less risk, more control, and greater rewards. And remember, you can scale your business in your own fashion, not under someone else.

You make the business decisions. You diversify your income, so your earnings don't originate from a single source.

Not to mention, there's more job security in working for yourself because you must gain more marketable skills to succeed. You diversify your skillset, meaning you can work in other positions and limit yourself. I have taught myself marketing, social media, camera operation and audio for my podcast. With so much information available online, I was able to learn this at home and for the most part, for free.

in my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons. It does take courage and not everyone has mustered that up. But if it is something you are thinking about, do your research, make a plan and start moving in that direction. Maybe start side hustle, while still earning a regular income and see how it goes. I'm cheering for you and I will forever be glad that I took the leap of faith to start this website!
